Around September I took my first art course at PCC. Before this class I had never taken an art class, and I had never used charcoal. I learned that despite it seeming like a clunky tool that you can do a lot of great things with it if you know how to use it properly. Mainly, dont try to draw lines like you would with a pencil!

I managed to get a few pics into the Sylvania art gallery, and my instructor (the very talented Vicki Wilson) strongly "suggested" that I take Live Drawing next term (which I am!). If you ever take an art class at PCC, I highly recommend getting her if at all possible!

All of the charcoal art that I just posted was shot with an okay digital camera, as I cant think of another way to get it on my computer. While I dont expect to use charcoal as my primary medium, I think that the skills learned from this class can be readily applied to other tools, and I'm hoping to get into painting now.
